Thanksgiving Week Prayer Guide
Hey Church!
Happy Thanksgiving! Our Wednesday Night Prayer Gathering looks a little different this week! Let me encourage you to gather with your family and friends in homes or around dinner tables, and use this guide to have your own Prayer Gathering! Philippians 4:6–7 reminds us, “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”:
Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer!
Pastor Michael
Guided prayer
- PRAY FOR THE CHURCH – local, national, and global
Ephesians 1:22–23. “And He subjected everything under His feet and appointed Him as head over everything for the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of the One who fills all things in every way.”
Today we are grateful for our church and every other Bible believing, gospel centered congregation in East Texas! It has been well said that “the church, with all of her imperfections, fractures and frustrations, is still God’s chief instrument in extending Truth and Grace to a lost and dying world.” (Eph 2:19-20, 1 Cor 12:27, John 1:14)
Prayer Focus:
- Ask for unity and love to define our church family.
- Pray for discipleship and spiritual formation through groups, classes, and mentoring.
- Pray for renewed hunger for God and obedience to His Word.
“As we pray for Christ’s Church, we ask God’s continued blessing on Green Acres and other Gospel-centered churches who glorify Jesus and bring hope to our community!”
- PRAY FOR YOUR FAMILY – “Give thanks for God’s blessing of family.”
Joshua 24:15 declares, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Say the word “family” in a room of 1000 people and it brings up great feelings for some people and feelings of dread for others. Family is not always easy. They can be the source of blessing and also curse, even in the best of circumstances. But we can pray for our family even if it is difficult! We can make sure that we have asked God to move in our family in ways that honor Him.
Prayer Focus:
• Pray for love, unity, and Christlike humility in your home.
• Pray for your marriage to be strengthened and be built on Christ.
• Pray for God’s healing in hurting or broken relationships.
“As we pray for family, we welcome God’s presence to form a legacy of Gospel hope that shapes future generations.”
- PRAY FOR THE POOR, VULNERABLE, AND SUFFERING – “Give thanks for God’s compassion and imitate His mercy.”
“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him.”
Proverbs 19:17
“Don’t make eye contact,” I said to myself, hoping to avoid interacting with the man on the corner holding an “I’m hungry can you help?” sign. “It’s a scam,” “It’s his own fault,” “he would just use the money I give for things other than food,” “if he would work as hard at a job then…” well, I’ve thought it all. I’ve stopped and given money, and I’ve also ignored and moved on. But at the end of the day, I am not responsible for what someone else does with my generosity…I’m just told to be generous. That may or may not mean helping the guy with the sign. But it most certainly does mean that I am to help somebody! Who would God have you help today?
Prayer Focus:
• Pray for the homeless, hungry, and those without family support. Click here for a list of our local partners who help us reach the marginalized
• Pray for those struggling with addiction, sickness, or depression.
• Pray for widows, orphans, refugees, and the oppressed.
“As we pray for the poor and suffering, let’s align our hearts with God’s compassion and commit to serve as His hands and feet.”
- PRAY FOR MISSIONARIES AND GOSPEL WORKERS.
Romans 10:14-15. Tells us, “ How, then, can they call on him they have not believed in? And how can they believe without hearing about him? And how can they hear without a preacher? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful[a] are the feet of those who bring good news”.
Above the doors, leading from the worship center to the parking lot hung a sign that read: “You are now entering your mission field.” Some of you remember signs like that from years ago and while cliché, it had a profound impact on me. Today we pray for our perspective and posture when it comes to local, national, and international missions. What if we understood deeply that everything in our lives is to be used “on mission” from the moment we set food outside the church walls? That would be a dangerous prayer indeed!
Prayer Focus:
• Thank God for men and women who carry the Gospel locally and globally.
Click here for a list of our local partners.
• Pray for boldness, strength, and joy in their work.
• Pray for protection against spiritual warfare.
“As we pray for Green Acres’ local ministry and church planting partners, we join their efforts to reach every tribe and tongue, accelerating God’s mission to make Christ known.”
- PRAY FOR SALVATION & SPIRITUAL AWAKENING.
One of the clearest verses in scripture that describes the mission and work of Jesus is in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, pastor, theologian, and martyr whose life embodied courageous faith and moral conviction in one of history’s darkest times, said this … “It is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” Being grateful is often the key to satisfaction, peace, and the ability to celebrate others’ good blessings. Remember what life was like before you had the hope of Jesus? I do! And it drives me to be grateful for my own salvation and stirs me to share my faith with others. How about you?
Prayer Focus:
• Thank God for your salvation and the gift of eternal life.
• Pray for spiritual awakening in your family and community.
“As we pray for people to come to faith in Jesus, we join God in His redemptive mission to rescue the lost and awaken hearts to His unfailing love.”
