Beyond Cultural Christianity | Tuesday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
Growing up in church, having Christian parents, or living in a Christian culture doesn’t automatically make someone a Christian any more than living in a garage makes someone a car. This is the tragedy of cultural Christianity – assuming we inherit salvation like we inherit our last name. Many people live their entire lives close to the kingdom of God but never actually enter it. They know about Jesus, understand He’s the Savior, but have never made Him their personal Savior. There’s a profound difference between knowing about someone and knowing them personally. Jesus doesn’t just want to be acknowledged as Savior in general; He wants to be your Savior specifically. This requires a personal decision, a personal surrender, a personal faith that goes beyond family tradition or cultural identity.

Bible Verse
‘Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”‘ – John 3:3

Reflection Question
Are you relying on your family’s faith, church attendance, or cultural background for your salvation, or have you personally surrendered your life to Jesus?

Quote
You are not just born into the kingdom of God. You must be born again to enter the kingdom of God.

Prayer
Father, help me move beyond cultural Christianity to a personal, life-changing relationship with Jesus. Show me any areas where I’m depending on heritage rather than personal faith.
