Discerning the Times | Wednesday
Devotional
Just as we can read weather patterns and predict storms, we need spiritual discernment to recognize God’s timing and movements in our lives. This ability doesn’t come naturally – it develops through continual study of God’s Word and training our spiritual senses to distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. In our information-saturated world, we’re bombarded with competing voices and conflicting messages. Without spiritual discernment, we can easily be swept away by cultural trends or deceived by appealing but false teachings. The key is learning to interpret everything through the lens of Scripture. We must take our Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other, reading both but interpreting current events in light of God’s eternal truth. This discernment helps us choose our battles wisely, recognizing what’s worth fighting for and what we should let go. Not every conflict deserves our energy. Like the saying goes, “A pit bull can whoop a skunk anytime. It’s just not worth it.” Spiritual discernment protects us from unnecessary battles while preparing us for the important ones God calls us to engage.
Bible Verse
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” – Hebrews 5:14
