Truth That Divides | Tuesday
Lanny Bridges

Devotional
Following Jesus creates necessary separation from worldly values and moral relativism. In our culture that celebrates tolerance above truth, this can feel uncomfortable. But Jesus never promised that discipleship would be easy or popular. When we embrace God’s absolute truth, it naturally creates division – not because we’re trying to be difficult, but because light exposes darkness. This division happens over God’s truth versus cultural opinions, from this world’s system versus God’s kingdom, and regarding our passions where our love for Christ should tower above all other affections. The challenge isn’t to become harsh or unloving toward others. Rather, it’s to hold firmly to what God says while extending His love unconditionally. Truth, by its very nature, is narrow and exclusive. When the whole world says one thing and God says something else, we must choose God. This doesn’t make us better than others – it makes us dependent on the One who is truth itself. Our commitment to God’s truth should be matched by our commitment to His love, creating a beautiful tension that draws others to Christ rather than driving them away.

Bible Verse
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you tempted to compromise God’s truth to avoid conflict or gain acceptance?

Quote
There are no versions of the truth. If I say something’s black and you say something’s white, we can’t both be right. Truth, by its very nature, is narrow and exclusive.

Prayer
Father, give me courage to stand on Your truth while loving others as You love them. Help me be both faithful and gracious.
