Stewards, Not Owners | Tuesday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
We live in a culture obsessed with ownership – owning homes, cars, businesses, even our own destinies. But Jesus reveals a radical truth: we are stewards, not owners, of everything in our lives. A steward manages someone else’s property with their interests in mind. This perspective shift is liberating because it removes the crushing weight of thinking we must build our own kingdoms. Your talents, your family, your job, your money – none of it originated with you. Everything you have is a gift from God, entrusted to you for His purposes. This doesn’t diminish your responsibility; it clarifies it. You’re not responsible for creating success from nothing, but you are responsible for faithfully managing what has been placed in your care. When we embrace our role as stewards, we find freedom from the pressure to be self-made and discover the joy of partnership with God.

Bible Verse
‘This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed.’ – 1 Corinthians 4:1

Reflection Question
What area of your life do you struggle most to see as God’s property rather than your own?

Quote
You are a manager of your master’s resources. Another word for this that Jesus is getting at
is, you are steward. A steward is not an owner. A manager is not an owner.

Prayer
Father, help me remember that I am a steward of Your gifts. Teach me to manage everything You’ve given me with Your kingdom purposes in mind.
