The Great Reversal | Thursday
Devotional
Jesus makes an astounding promise to those found faithful when He returns: the Master will serve them. In a world where masters are served and servants do the serving, this is revolutionary. It’s incomprehensible by human standards, yet it reveals the heart of our Savior.
This promise should encourage every believer who quietly serves day after day. Maybe you’re the one who shows up early to set up chairs, stays late to clean up, or gives generously without recognition. Perhaps you’re faithfully serving your family, caring for aging parents, or investing in difficult relationships. You might wonder if anyone notices or if it really matters.
Jesus notices. And He promises that faithful service now leads to incredible honor later. The One who had every right to be served became a servant. He went to a cross He didn’t deserve and rose from a tomb that couldn’t hold Him. This same Jesus will one day serve those who served Him faithfully.
This great reversal isn’t just about future reward – it transforms how we serve today. When we understand that our Master became our servant, we serve others not out of obligation but out of love. We follow His example, knowing that humble service now leads to eternal significance.
Bible Verse
‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?’ – John 14:1-2
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus will one day serve you change your attitude toward serving others today?
Quote
Truly, I tell you, he will get ready. Have Them recline at the table, then come and serve them. This is the great reversal.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for serving me through Your sacrifice. Help me serve others with the same humble heart You demonstrated, knowing You see and value every act of faithful service.
