Roll Up Your Sleeves | Tuesday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
When Jesus talks about being ready for His return, He uses the image of servants with their sleeves rolled up. This isn’t about sitting around waiting passively – it’s about being ready to work. Rolling up your sleeves means you’re prepared for action, ready to move when called upon.

Too often, we think spiritual readiness means having all our theological questions answered or feeling spiritually perfect. But Jesus paints a different picture. He wants us actively engaged in His kingdom work – sharing the Gospel, serving others, and advancing His mission on earth.

This active waiting transforms how we view our daily lives. Every job becomes a mission field. Every relationship becomes an opportunity to reflect Christ’s love. Every challenge becomes a chance to demonstrate faith in action. We’re not just marking time until Jesus returns; we’re making the time count.

The beauty of this approach is that it keeps us spiritually sharp and emotionally healthy. When we’re actively serving God’s kingdom, we’re less likely to drift into spiritual complacency or worldly distractions. We stay connected to our purpose and maintain the urgency that comes from knowing our Master could return at any moment.

Bible Verse
‘Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.’ – 1 Peter 1:13

Reflection Question
What specific area of kingdom work is God calling you to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and get involved in?

Quote
It’s like what we would tell each other today, hey, roll your sleeves up and let’s get after it. This is what Jesus is saying. This is how you are to wait on the return of Christ.

Prayer
Father, show me where You want me to serve actively in Your kingdom. Help me move from passive waiting to purposeful working for Your glory.
