When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary | Monday
Devotional
December 7, 1941, started like any other Sunday morning. Families were having breakfast, children were playing, and life felt predictable. Then Pearl Harbor changed everything in an instant. History is filled with these moments when ordinary days become extraordinary turning points.
Jesus tells us His return will be just like this – unexpected, sudden, and life-changing. The challenge isn’t whether we believe He’s coming back; it’s whether we truly believe it could be today. We fall into the trap of thinking tomorrow will be just like today, that we have endless time to get our spiritual lives in order.
But what if today isn’t ordinary? What if this is the day everything changes? Living with this awareness doesn’t create anxiety – it creates purpose. It moves us from sleepwalking through life to walking with intentional faith. When we truly grasp that Jesus could return at any moment, every conversation becomes an opportunity, every relationship becomes precious, and every day becomes a gift to be stewarded well.
The question isn’t if Jesus is coming back, but are we living like He might come back today?
Bible Verse
‘Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning. Be like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him.’ – Luke 12:35-36
Reflection Question
If you knew Jesus was returning tomorrow, what would you do differently today?
Quote
Here’s the trap that all of us get into. The trap is for us to fall into the rut of life. Waking up every day believing that this is just another day.
Prayer
Lord, help me live each day with the awareness that You could return at any moment. Give me urgency without anxiety, and purpose in every ordinary moment.
