Pointing to Jesus, Not Ourselves | Friday
Devotional
The ultimate test of authentic faith isn’t how well we perform religious duties, but whether our lives point others to Jesus or to ourselves. When people observe our faith, what do they see – our righteousness or His? This is where the rubber meets the road. It’s easy to spot religious performance in others, but much harder to see it in ourselves. We can become so focused on our spiritual growth, our biblical knowledge, or our ministry success that we subtly shift the spotlight from Jesus to ourselves.
True relationship with Jesus always points away from our ability and toward His grace. When we mess up, we don’t hide it or make excuses – we point to Jesus as our hope and forgiveness. When we succeed, we don’t take credit – we give glory to the One who transforms hearts. The next generation is watching us, yearning for authentic relationship with Jesus. They can spot fake faith from a mile away, but they’re drawn to genuine love for Christ. They don’t need us to be perfect; they need us to be real about our need for a Savior.
As we close this week of reflection, let’s commit to surrendering our hearts fully to Christ. Let’s stop trying to manage our external image and instead allow Jesus to transform us from the inside out. This is the faith that changes lives – both ours and those watching us.
Bible Verse
“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” – Hebrews 3:13
Reflection Question
When people observe your faith, do they see your righteousness or Jesus’ righteousness working through you?
Quote
A relationship with Jesus doesn’t point to our ability or our understanding of how to become righteous. It points to Jesus who makes the sinner righteous.
Prayer
Jesus, I want my life to point others to You, not to myself. Transform my heart so completely that Your love and grace shine through me to a watching world.
