Dressed for Success | Thursday

Devotional

Every morning, you make a choice about what to wear. You consider the weather, your plans for the day,

and what’s appropriate for where you’re going. Did you know there’s also a dress code for the Christian

life? Every day, we have the opportunity to consciously ‘put on’ Christ—to clothe ourselves with His

righteousness, His character, and His nature.

This isn’t about external appearance or religious performance. It’s about a daily decision to depend on

Christ rather than ourselves. When we try to live the Christian life in our own strength, we’re essentially

showing up spiritually naked—exposed and inadequate for the challenges we’ll face.

But when we consciously choose to be dressed in Christ, everything changes. His righteousness covers our

failures. His strength empowers our weakness. His love flows through our relationships. His peace guards

our hearts. This is what it means to live dependently on Him rather than self-sufficiently on our own.

The beautiful thing about being dressed in Christ is that it’s not about our performance—it’s about His

provision. Just as God clothed Adam and Eve after their sin, He clothes us with Christ’s righteousness. We

don’t earn this clothing; we simply receive it and choose to wear it each day.

Self-dependence is like a spiritual fire extinguisher—it quenches God’s work in our lives faster than

anything else. But when we embrace our need for Christ and consciously depend on Him, we create space

for His fire to burn brightly in and through us.

Bible Verse

‘Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of

the flesh.’ – Romans 13:14

Reflection Question

What does it practically look like for you to ‘put on Christ’ each morning, and in what specific areas do you

need to move from self-dependence to Christ-dependence?

Quote

There’s nothing that can quench the fire of God and douse it more in your life and mine than a spirit of self

dependence and self-reliance.

Prayer

Father, I confess my tendency toward self-reliance. Help me to consciously clothe myself with Christ each

day, depending on His strength rather than my own. May His righteousness cover me and His character

shine through me. Amen.
