From Admirer to Advancer | Monday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
David Brainerd, an 18th-century missionary, experienced a profound shift in his spiritual journey. He wrote, “I could no longer be content to admire the kingdom of Christ. I longed to advance it.” This wasn’t just a career change—it was a heart transformation that every believer is called to experience.

Many of us find ourselves comfortable in the role of spiritual observers. We attend church, read our Bibles, and appreciate God’s work around us. But there comes a moment when admiration must transform into action. We begin to realize that following Jesus isn’t just about receiving His truth—it’s about carrying that truth to others who desperately need to hear it.

This transition doesn’t require a seminary degree or special calling. If you’re saved, you already possess everything necessary for this journey. The Spirit of the living God dwells within you, equipping you for the work ahead. The question isn’t whether you’re qualified—it’s whether you’re willing to move from the sidelines to the field.

Perhaps you’ve been watching God’s kingdom advance around you, marveling at what He’s doing through others. That’s a beautiful starting point, but it’s not the destination. God wants to work through you, not just around you. Your unique story, your relationships, your sphere of influence—these are the very tools He wants to use to reach others.

The enemy would love nothing more than to convince you that you’re not equipped for this calling. Don’t believe that lie. Every true disciple eventually makes this transition from observer to participant.

Bible Verse
“‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.'” – Mark 1:17

Reflection Question
What has kept you in the role of an observer rather than a participant in advancing God’s kingdom, and what would it look like to take your first step toward active involvement?

Quote
I could no longer be content to admire the kingdom of Christ. I longed to advance it.

Prayer
Lord, help me move beyond simply admiring Your kingdom to actively advancing it. Give me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and trust that You have equipped me for the work You’re calling me to do. Amen.
