The Urgency of Now | Wednesday
Devotional
Time is the one resource we can never get back. Once a moment passes, it’s gone forever. This reality becomes even more sobering when we consider that every day, thousands of people enter eternity without knowing Jesus. While we debate, delay, and make excuses, souls are slipping into darkness.
It’s easy to become comfortable in our Christian bubbles, surrounded by believers who share our values and vocabulary. We attend church, participate in Bible studies, and feel like we’re doing our part. But comfort can become the enemy of urgency. When we’re comfortable, we lose sight of the desperate need around us.
The statistics are staggering: every minute, people are dying without ever hearing the Gospel. These aren’t just numbers—they’re individuals with names, families, dreams, and fears. They’re people who matter deeply to God, people for whom Jesus died.
Yet urgency doesn’t mean panic or pressure. It means recognizing that today matters. The conversation you have with your neighbor today might be the one that plants a seed. The kindness you show a stranger could be the first glimpse they have of God’s love. The invitation you extend to church might be exactly what someone needs to hear.
Urgency also means being intentional with our time and relationships. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment or the right words, we start where we are with what we have. We pray for opportunities and then watch for them. We ask God to break our hearts for what breaks His.
The enemy of urgency isn’t just comfort—it’s the lie that there will always be tomorrow. But tomorrow isn’t promised, and the need is now. Today is the day to let your light shine, to share your story, to extend an invitation.
Bible Verse
“They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee.” – Luke 8:26
Reflection Question
What specific steps can you take this week to move from comfortable Christianity to urgent mission in your everyday relationships?
Quote
The greatest enemy of urgency is our comfort and complacency.
Prayer
Lord, break my heart for what breaks Yours. Help me see the urgency of the Gospel message and give me courage to act on the opportunities You place before me. Don’t let comfort and complacency rob me of the joy of being used by You.
