The Power of Simple Obedience | Monday
Devotional
Have you ever been asked to do something without knowing all the details? When Jesus told His disciples to cross to the other side of the lake, they didn’t ask for a detailed itinerary or weather forecast. They simply said yes. These weren’t naive beginners – they were experienced fishermen who knew the risks of the sea. Yet something about Jesus compelled immediate obedience.
Obedience to Jesus often begins in the ordinary moments. It’s not always a dramatic calling to distant lands; sometimes it’s as simple as crossing a lake. But notice what happened – their willingness to follow Jesus into unfamiliar territory became the setting for witnessing His incredible power over creation.
In our lives, God rarely reveals the entire journey upfront. He asks us to trust Him one step at a time. Maybe He’s calling you to have a difficult conversation, serve in a new way, or step out of your comfort zone. The disciples’ example shows us that mission begins not with understanding everything, but with trusting the One who does.
When we say yes to Jesus without all the answers, we position ourselves to experience His power in ways we never imagined. Their simple boat ride became a front-row seat to a miracle. What might your simple yes lead to today?
Bible Verse
“One day Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side of the lake.’ So they got into a boat and set out.” – Luke 8:22
Reflection Question
What is one area of your life where Jesus might be asking for simple obedience, even though you don’t have all the answers?
Quote
Mission starts with obedience to Jesus.
Prayer
Lord, help me to respond with immediate obedience when You call, even when I can’t see the full picture. Give me the faith to trust Your leading and the courage to say yes to Your invitations. Amen.
