Resting in Christ | Friday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
The ultimate destination of faith is rest—not a lazy inactivity, but a profound peace that comes from trusting completely in Christ’s finished work. When we truly understand that we cannot earn God’s favor through our own righteousness, we can stop striving and start resting in what Jesus has already accomplished.

This rest doesn’t lead to spiritual lethargy. Quite the opposite—it energizes us for joyful obedience. When we’re no longer trying to earn God’s love through our performance, we’re free to serve Him out of gratitude rather than obligation or fear.

True faith recognizes that Jesus has taken our unrighteousness and given us His perfect righteousness in exchange. We stand before God not in the tattered garments of our own goodness but clothed in Christ’s perfection.

Today, ask yourself: Are you still exhausting yourself trying to be good enough for God? Or have you entered the rest that comes from trusting completely in what Jesus has done for you? The invitation stands—to exchange your striving for His peace, your unrighteousness for His righteousness.

Bible Verse
“Then Naaman went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” – 2 Kings 5:14

Reflection Question
What would change in your daily life if you fully embraced the truth that you are already clothed in
Christ’s righteousness and don’t need to earn God’s approval?

Quote
Jesus takes your unrighteousness and he gives you his robe of righteousness and says, child, be mine.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for taking my unrighteousness and giving me Your perfect righteousness. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to earn what You freely give. Help me to rest completely in Your finished work and to serve You out of gratitude rather than obligation. I receive Your robe of righteousness today and rest in the assurance that I am fully accepted in You. In Your precious name, amen.
