The Greater Jonah | Friday
Devotional
Jonah’s story ultimately points us to someone greater – Jesus Christ. While Jonah fled from God’s calling, Jesus willingly embraced His Father’s will, even when it led to the cross. Jonah ran from his enemies; Jesus ran toward His.
Jesus is the greater Jonah who didn’t flee but faced the storm of God’s judgment for our sin. He willingly went down – down from heaven, down to earth, down to the cross, and down to the grave – so that we could be lifted up. Where Jonah’s rebellion endangered others, Jesus’ obedience saved others.
This is the heart of the gospel: God pursued our sin so relentlessly that He sent His own Son to pay the price for our rebellion. Jesus became the ultimate fugitive-catcher, pursuing us not to condemn us but to redeem us.
No matter how far you’ve run, no matter how deep your rebellion, you cannot outrun God’s grace because Jesus has already run further to reach you. His love is more persistent than your resistance, His grace more powerful than your guilt.
Today, rest in the truth that Jesus has done what you could never do. He has bridged the gap between your rebellion and God’s holiness. In Him, you are pursued, caught, and loved beyond measure.
Bible Verse
‘We love because he first loved us.’ – 1 John 4:19

How does knowing that Jesus willingly faced what you deserved change your understanding of God’s love for you?

There will not ever be a time in your life that you can outrun the grace of God.

Jesus, thank You for not running from Your calling to save me. Help me to live in the freedom and love You’ve provided through Your sacrifice.
