Seeing Beyond the Surface | Monday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
Have you ever noticed how mothers seem to have a sixth sense about their children? They can spot trouble brewing from across the room or sense when something’s wrong even when everything appears fine on the surface. This unique ability to see what others miss is a beautiful gift, but it also reveals something profound about human nature.

We all struggle with spiritual blindness. Our natural tendency is to see only what’s immediately in front of us, missing the deeper realities at work in our lives. When tragedy strikes or suffering enters our story, we often react based on limited perspective, demanding immediate answers from God.

Just as a loving mother sees beyond her child’s temporary tantrum to address deeper needs, God sees beyond our immediate circumstances to accomplish His eternal purposes. The challenge isn’t that God lacks control or love, but that we lack the sight and understanding to see His work clearly.

Today, instead of demanding explanations for life’s difficulties, consider that there might be more happening than meets the eye. God’s perspective spans eternity, while ours is confined to this moment. Trust that He sees what you cannot and is working even when His ways seem unclear.

Bible Verse
‘You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?’ – Luke 12:56

Reflection Question
What situation in your life right now might look different if you could see it from God’s eternal perspective?

Quote
The default condition of every single one of us is that we are spiritually blind.

Prayer
Father, help me to see beyond my limited perspective and trust Your perfect vision. Give me faith to believe You’re working even when I can’t understand Your ways.
