Bent Under the Weight | Wednesday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
The woman in the synagogue was physically bent over, unable to straighten up or look ahead. But her condition represents something much deeper that affects every human being. While you may not be bent physically, you are certainly bent under the weight of sin. We all carry burdens that keep us from standing tall in God’s presence – guilt, shame, fear, pride, anger, or countless other weights that Satan uses to keep us bound. For 18 years, this woman lived with limitations, unable to see the horizon or stand with dignity. Sin does the same thing to us spiritually. It keeps us from seeing God’s promises clearly, from walking with confidence in His love, and from experiencing the freedom He designed for us. But just as Jesus had the power to straighten this woman’s spine instantly, He has the power to free you from whatever has been bending you down. The beautiful truth is that Jesus doesn’t just heal symptoms; He addresses the root cause. He doesn’t just make you feel better temporarily; He sets you completely free. Your spiritual posture can be transformed today, allowing you to stand tall as a child of God and look forward with hope and expectation.

Bible Verse
‘But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ – Romans 5:8

Reflection Question
What specific burden or sin has been keeping you ‘bent over’ spiritually, preventing you from standing tall in God’s grace?

Quote
You may not be bent physically, but you are certainly bent under the weight of your sin.

Prayer
Father, I acknowledge the weight of sin that has bent me down. Please straighten my spiritual posture and help me walk in the freedom Christ has provided.
