The Idol of More | Wednesday
Devotional
Whether rich or poor, we all struggle with the same universal problem: wanting more. The wealthy want more wealth, the poor want more possessions, and everyone wants more security, comfort, or recognition. This desire for ‘more’ can quietly become an idol in our hearts. Paul calls greed idolatry because it shifts our worship from God to things. The danger isn’t in having possessions but in possessions having us. When our hearts become focused on earthly accumulation, we lose sight of heavenly treasures. The enemy doesn’t need dramatic arguments for materialism – just a quiet whisper that grows over time, stealing our hearts away from God. True contentment comes not from having more but from being rich toward God through Christ.
Bible Verse
‘Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:’ – Colossians 3:5 (King James Version (KJV))
