Empty Hands Before God | Thursday
Devotional
When we stand before our Creator, what can we possibly offer Him? Our achievements, wealth, or good deeds seem impressive to others, but before the One who created galaxies, they’re nothing. The rich man in Jesus’ parable had built an empire, but when his life was demanded, none of it mattered. This reality should humble us, not discourage us. Our greatest accomplishments are like filthy rags before a holy God – they cannot earn us entrance into heaven or provide eternal security. This truth levels the playing field between rich and poor, successful and struggling. We all come before God with empty hands, desperately needing His grace. Recognizing our spiritual poverty is the first step toward true richness – the richness that comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Bible Verse
‘And were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)’ – Ephesians 2:3-5 (King James Version (KJV))
Reflection Question
What accomplishments or possessions have you been relying on for security instead of God’s grace?
Quote
Your greatest gift and your greatest deed before God is a filthy rag that will not produce righteousness.
Prayer
God, I acknowledge that I have nothing to offer You except my need for Your mercy. Thank You for Your amazing grace.
