Living with Urgency | Friday
Devotional
The return of Christ is mentioned 318 times in the New Testament – roughly once every 25 verses. This isn’t a minor theme tucked away in obscure passages; it’s central to the Christian faith. Yet many of us live as if we have unlimited time to get serious about our relationship with God.
The enemy whispers lies of delay: “You can deal with your spiritual life later. Have that important conversation tomorrow. There’s no rush.” But Jesus calls us to live with holy urgency, not because we should be anxious, but because opportunities are precious and time is limited.
This urgency should shape how we approach our relationships, our work, and our witness. It means having difficult conversations with family members about faith. It means being bold in sharing the Gospel with coworkers. It means investing in our marriage, our children, and our community as if each day matters – because it does.
Living with urgency doesn’t mean living in panic. It means living with purpose. It means recognizing that today is the day to love well, serve faithfully, and point others toward Jesus. When we truly believe He’s coming back soon, we stop procrastinating on the things that matter most for eternity.
Bible Verse
‘For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.’ – 1 Thessalonians 4:16
Reflection Question
What important conversation or action have you been putting off that you need to address with eternal urgency?
Quote
The temptation is for us to believe that it’s not soon. We have time. No reason to worry. I can deal with my spiritual life later. I can get serious about my faith later. I’ll have the conversation later. And that is antithetical to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the fact that he is returning soon.
Prayer
Father, give me holy urgency to live each day as if it could be my last opportunity to serve You and love others well. Help me stop procrastinating on what matters most.
