Breaking Free from the Tyranny of Busyness | Thursday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
We live in the most distracted age in human history. The average person checks their phone 96 times a day, constantly pulled in different directions by notifications, obligations, and endless to-do lists. But here’s the truth: when busyness becomes our master, it makes us bitter, exhausted, and unable to love others well.

A life with no margin is a life that can’t respond to God’s promptings or serve others spontaneously. When we’re constantly rushing from one thing to another, we miss opportunities to be good Samaritans, to notice someone in need, or to simply be present with the people God has placed in our lives.

Sometimes we stay busy because we’re afraid to be still. In the quiet moments, when the distractions fade away, Jesus begins to speak to our hearts through His Word. But if we never create space for stillness, we never hear His voice. Breaking free from busyness isn’t about becoming lazy – it’s about creating room for what matters most. It’s about choosing a life of intentional devotion over frantic activity.

Bible Verse
‘But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.’ – Matthew 6:33

Reflection Question
What would need to change in your schedule to create more margin for God and others?

Quote
When busyness becomes your tyrant. You are bitter toward everybody else.

Prayer
Lord, help me break free from the tyranny of busyness. Teach me to be still and know that You are God.
