No Halfway Disciples | Tuesday
Devotional
In our culture of casual commitments and flexible arrangements, Jesus presents a radically different approach to following Him. There’s no such thing as a part-time disciple or a weekend warrior for Christ. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He’s calling us to complete transformation and total commitment.
Many of us have tried to negotiate with God—offering Him Sunday mornings while keeping the rest of our week for ourselves, or giving Him our spare change while holding tightly to our real treasures. But authentic discipleship doesn’t work that way. It’s not about dipping our toes in the water when we feel like it; it’s about diving headfirst into a life that revolves around Jesus.
This might sound overwhelming, but here’s the encouraging truth: God doesn’t expect you to figure it all out overnight. Complete discipleship is about direction, not perfection. It’s about consistently choosing to align your life with Jesus’ purposes, even when it’s difficult. It’s about growing in His likeness day by day, decision by decision.
When we embrace this all-in approach to following Jesus, something beautiful happens. We discover that the life we thought we were giving up was actually holding us back from the abundant life God had planned for us all along. Complete commitment to Jesus isn’t a burden—it’s the pathway to true freedom and purpose.
Bible Verse
‘For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ – Ephesians 2:10
Reflection Question
What areas of your life are you still trying to keep separate from your relationship with Jesus, and what would it look like to surrender those areas to Him?
Quote
There really is no halfway in, halfway out, right? There is no. I’m going to kind of put my toe in a little bit every now and then when I feel like it. That’s not a disciple of Jesus.
Prayer
Jesus, I don’t want to be a halfway disciple. Help me surrender every area of my life to You. Show me where I’m holding back and give me courage to follow You completely. Amen.
