Lambs Among Wolves | Thursday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
Jesus doesn’t sugarcoat the reality of kingdom work. He tells His followers plainly: ‘I’m sending you out like lambs among wolves.’ If you’ve ever felt vulnerable, outnumbered, or overwhelmed in your faith journey, you’re in good company. Jesus knew exactly what He was asking of His disciples, and He knows exactly what He’s asking of you.

In the natural world, wolves win against lambs every single time. Sheep have no natural defenses, no sharp claws, no fierce roar. They’re completely dependent on their shepherd for protection. This might seem like a discouraging analogy, but it’s actually the source of our greatest strength.

When we recognize our complete dependence on Jesus, we discover something powerful: we’re not alone in this battle. The Great Shepherd goes before us, walks beside us, and promises never to leave us. We have the power of Jesus, the presence of Jesus, and that’s everything we need to have courage in this life.

This doesn’t mean following Jesus will always be easy or that everyone will welcome our message. There will be rejection, misunderstanding, and opposition. But even in the darkest moments, even when we can’t figure out why certain things are happening, we can have confidence that our Shepherd is with us.

Your vulnerability isn’t a weakness—it’s the very place where God’s strength is made perfect. When you feel like a lamb among wolves, remember that you serve the Lion of Judah.

Bible Verse
‘After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.’ – Luke 10:1

Reflection Question
In what situations do you feel most like a ‘lamb among wolves,’ and how can remembering Jesus’ presence with you change your perspective in those moments?

Quote
Even in the darkest moments of life, have no fear. Even when things are just dark, man. And you can’t figure out, like, why this is happening. Never forget, the great shepherd is with you always.

Prayer
Lord, when I feel vulnerable and outnumbered, remind me that You are my Great Shepherd. Give me courage to follow You even when the path seems dangerous. Help me trust in Your protection and presence. Amen.
