A Glimpse of Glory | Thursday
Lanny Bridges

Devotional
Imagine being Peter, James, or John on that mountain when Jesus was suddenly transformed before their eyes. His face shone like the sun, his clothes became brilliantly white, and Moses and Elijah appeared to discuss his upcoming work in Jerusalem. It was a preview of heaven, a glimpse of the glory that awaits every believer.

This wasn’t just a spectacular light show – it was God giving these disciples exactly what they would need to endure the dark days ahead. When they watched Jesus suffer and die, when they faced persecution and martyrdom, they could remember this moment. They had seen his glory. They knew who he really was.

Sometimes God gives us glimpses of his glory too. Maybe it’s a moment during worship when his presence feels tangible. Maybe it’s a prayer that’s answered in an unmistakable way. Maybe it’s a sense of peace that surpasses understanding during a difficult time. These aren’t accidents – they’re foretastes of the eternal glory that awaits us.

The Transfiguration reminds us that this world is not our final destination. There’s a coming kingdom where Jesus will reign in all his glory, where there will be no more pain, no more tears, no more death. Every believer will be there – some who have died in Christ and been raised, others who are caught up to meet him when he returns.

When your body is aching and your heart is breaking, remember this truth: he’s coming to get you. This glimpse of glory sustains us through every trial because we know our story doesn’t end with earthly struggles – it ends with eternal glory.

Bible Verse
‘Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.’ – Revelation 1:7

Reflection Question
How does remembering that you will one day see Jesus in all his glory change the way you view your current struggles and challenges?

Quote
And when your body’s aching and your heart is breaking, cheer up. He’s coming to get you. Cheer up, he’s coming to get you.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for the promise that we will see you in all your glory. When life gets difficult, remind me of this hope. Help me to live with eternity in view, knowing that our present sufferings are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed. Amen.
