A Friend Like No Other | Tuesday
Devotional
Friendship is one of life’s greatest treasures. True friends stick with you through thick and thin, celebrate your victories, and comfort you in your defeats. But even the best earthly friendships have limitations – friends move away, circumstances change, and sometimes people let us down.
Jesus offers something the world has never seen: a friendship that transcends every human limitation. When he told his disciples, “I no longer call you servants, I call you friends,” he was extending an invitation that still stands today. This isn’t just any friendship – this is friendship with the Creator of the universe who knows you better than you know yourself.
What makes this friendship so extraordinary? Jesus will never leave you or forsake you. He’s available 24/7, never too busy for your concerns. He loves you at your worst and celebrates you at your best. He knows your thoughts before you speak them and your needs before you ask. He’s already proven his love by laying down his life for you.
This friendship isn’t based on what you can do for Jesus, but on what he’s already done for you. You don’t have to earn his friendship through good behavior or lose it through mistakes. It’s a gift freely given to anyone who accepts it.
The world knows nothing of this kind of friendship because it’s supernatural. It’s a relationship that satisfies the deepest longings of your heart and provides strength for every challenge you’ll face. When earthly friendships disappoint or fade, this friendship with Jesus remains constant and true.
Bible Verse
‘Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.’ – John 15:13
Reflection Question
How would your daily life change if you truly lived as though Jesus is your closest, most trusted friend?
Quote
There is a close friendship with Jesus that’s available that the world knows nothing of. Jesus said in John 15, I no longer call you servants. I call you friend. I want to be that kind of friend. Don’t you?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me your friend. Help me to cultivate this friendship through prayer, reading your word, and walking in obedience. May I never take this incredible gift for granted. Amen.
