Your Primary Calling | Friday
Devotional
In a world obsessed with career success, relationship status, and material achievements, it’s easy to lose sight of what matters most. While education, career, marriage, and other life decisions are important and God-ordained, they’re not your primary calling. Your primary calling is fellowship with Christ—an intimate, ongoing relationship with Him. This changes everything about how we approach life. Instead of seeing our relationship with Jesus as one compartment among many, we begin to see it as the foundation that gives meaning to everything else. When fellowship with Christ is our primary calling, every other aspect of life becomes an opportunity to know Him better and make Him known. Jesus promises something incredible to those who overcome lukewarm living: ‘The one who conquers will be sitting with me on my throne.’ Notice He doesn’t say ‘near me’ or ‘close to me,’ but ‘with me.’ This speaks of intimate partnership, shared authority, and a deep relationship. This isn’t just a future promise—through Christ, we’re already seated with Him in heavenly places. Without the fire of God, nothing else counts. You can achieve every worldly goal and still feel empty inside. But possessing the fire of God, nothing else matters. When your heart burns with passion for Christ, you have everything you need for a life of purpose and joy. Charles Wesley said it perfectly: ‘Catch on fire and people will come for miles to watch you burn.’ When your primary calling becomes fellowship with Christ, your life becomes a beacon that draws others to the warmth and light of God’s love.
Bible Verse
‘God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.’ – 1 Corinthians 1:9
Reflection Question
How might your daily priorities and decisions change if you truly embraced fellowship with Christ as your
primary calling above all other pursuits?
Quote
The primary calling of your life is not where you go to school, the house you buy, the vocation you choose,
even who you marry. All of those things are important. They’re God ordained. Don’t mishear me.
Important and God ordained, but they’re secondary. God’s primary calling for your life and mind is
fellowship with Christ.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to remember that my primary calling is fellowship with You. May everything else in
my life flow from this relationship. Set my heart on fire with passion for You, and let that fire draw others
to Your love. Amen.
