Hearts of Fire | Tuesday

Devotional

What does it look like when a heart is truly alive in Christ? It’s not just about avoiding sin or following

rules—it’s about being set ablaze with passion for God. When we talk about romantic love, we sometimes

call someone our ‘flame.’ In the same way, a heart that’s on fire for God burns with unmistakable intensity.

This kind of heart has four distinct characteristics: a hunger for God’s Word that goes beyond duty to

delight, a passion for prayer that sees it as conversation with a beloved friend, a burden for the lost that

breaks over those who don’t know Jesus, and a delight in worship that can’t help but respond to God’s

goodness. These aren’t things we manufacture through willpower—they’re the natural overflow of a heart

that has been touched by God’s fire.

Remember the disciples on the road to Emmaus? After Jesus revealed Himself to them through Scripture,

they said, ‘Weren’t our hearts burning within us?’ That’s what happens when we truly encounter Jesus—our

hearts catch fire. This isn’t about emotional highs or spiritual performance. It’s about genuine

transformation that affects every aspect of our lives.

The beautiful thing about God’s fire is that it’s contagious. When your heart is burning with passion for

God, others notice. They’re drawn to the warmth and light that radiates from a life fully surrendered to

Christ. This is what the world desperately needs to see—not perfect people, but passionate people who are

genuinely in love with Jesus.

Bible Verse

‘They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and

opened the Scriptures to us?”‘ – Luke 24:32

Reflection Question

Which of the four characteristics of a burning heart (hunger for God’s Word, passion for prayer, burden for

the lost, delight in worship) do you most want to grow in, and what practical step could you take this

week?

Prayer

Lord, I want my heart to burn with passion for You. Kindle in me a hunger for Your Word, a love for

prayer, a heart for the lost, and joy in worship. Let Your fire consume everything in me that doesn’t honor

You. Amen.
