When Storms Reveal Our Hearts | Tuesday

Devotional
Storms have a unique way of showing us what’s really inside our hearts. When the fierce windstorm hit the disciples’ boat, their true fears surfaced immediately. These weren’t landlubbers on their first boat ride – they were seasoned fishermen who had weathered many storms. But this one was different. It was more intense, more threatening than anything they’d experienced before.

What’s fascinating is the contrast between Jesus and His disciples in this moment. While they panicked, convinced they were about to die, Jesus slept peacefully. The storm that terrified experienced sailors didn’t even wake Him up. This wasn’t indifference – it was perfect peace rooted in absolute trust in His Father.

Life’s storms often catch us off guard too. They might be financial pressures, relationship conflicts, health scares, or unexpected changes. Like the disciples, we can find ourselves crying out in fear, wondering if we’ll make it through. But here’s what we learn from Jesus: storms don’t have to steal our peace.

The disciples’ fear revealed their limited understanding of who was in their boat. They knew Jesus as a teacher and healer, but they hadn’t yet grasped His authority over all creation. Sometimes our storms serve the same purpose – they reveal areas where we need to grow in our understanding of Jesus’ power and presence in our lives.

Bible Verse
“As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.” – Luke 8:23
