The Greatest Compassion | Friday
Devotional
Jesus didn’t just heal bodies – He transformed lives. When He raised Jairus’ daughter and healed the bleeding woman, He demonstrated that His power extends beyond physical ailments to spiritual restoration. Both received not just healing, but new life in every sense.
This reveals something crucial about our mission as followers of Jesus. While meeting physical needs is important, the greatest act of compassion we can show someone is introducing them to Jesus. If we only feed the hungry without sharing the gospel, we’ve given them temporary relief but left them in eternal danger.
The same power that raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead is available today to raise people from spiritual death to spiritual life. When we share the gospel, we’re not just offering good advice or moral improvement – we’re offering resurrection power. We’re saying to spiritually dead people, ‘Child, get up!’
Mission moves at the pace of compassion. When we truly understand that people without Jesus are destined for eternal separation from God, it should break our hearts and compel us to action. The healing Jesus brought to these two families is a picture of the spiritual healing He offers to everyone who believes.
God can heal us physically, and sometimes He does. But whether healing comes in this life or the next, we can be certain that in Christ, complete restoration is coming for all who believe in Him.
Bible Verse
‘He took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.’ – Luke 8:54-55
