Surrendered and Sent | Friday

The most beautiful picture in Luke 8 isn’t the dramatic deliverance from demons—it’s what happened next. The man who had been completely out of control was found sitting at Jesus’s feet, clothed and in his right mind. This posture of surrender became the foundation for his mission.

Sitting at Jesus’s feet represents complete surrender and worship. It’s the position of a student ready to learn, a servant ready to obey, a worshiper ready to give everything. This man had experienced the ultimate rescue, and his response was total surrender. He didn’t want to go anywhere else or be with anyone else.

Yet Jesus had different plans. Instead of allowing him to follow as a disciple, Jesus sent him home as a missionary. This teaches us something profound: true surrender doesn’t always look like what we expect. Sometimes surrender means staying where we are and serving where God has placed us, rather than going where we think we should go.

The man’s surrender at Jesus’s feet prepared him for his sending to his community. His worship became the foundation for his witness. He couldn’t effectively tell others about Jesus until he had first sat with Jesus, learning who He truly was.

This is the pattern for every believer: we come to Jesus in surrender, and from that place of worship, we’re sent into the world with His message. Our mission flows from our relationship. Our witness emerges from our worship.

Jesus alone is worthy of a life completely surrendered to Him. When we truly grasp who He is and what He’s done, surrender isn’t a burden—it’s a joy. And from that place of joyful surrender, we’re equipped and empowered to be His ambassadors wherever He sends us.

Bible Verse
“When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.” – Luke 8:35

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life is Jesus calling you to deeper surrender, and how might that surrender prepare you for greater service in His kingdom?

Quote
Jesus alone is worthy of a life surrendered in worship to him.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You alone are worthy of my complete surrender. Help me sit at Your feet in worship before I run to serve. Teach me that true mission flows from true surrender, and use my life for Your glory wherever You send me.
