Your Place at the Table | Friday
Devotional
At the end of this remarkable dinner party, Jesus spoke words that must have shocked everyone present: “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” To a woman that society had written off, Jesus offered complete acceptance and a fresh start. He didn’t minimize her past or ignore her sin—He transformed it through forgiveness.
This is the beautiful truth that emerges from this story: no matter what your past looks like, no matter what you’re struggling with today, Jesus has a place for you at His table. The woman who seemed least likely to belong was the one who truly understood what it meant to be welcomed by grace.
Maybe you feel more like Simon—religious, respectable, but struggling with pride and judgment. Jesus has a place for you too. Maybe you feel more like the woman—broken, ashamed, carrying the weight of past mistakes. Jesus has a place for you as well. The invitation isn’t based on your performance or your past; it’s based on His love and grace.
Every Sunday when we gather as a church, we’re recreating this scene in some way. People from all walks of life, carrying different stories and struggles, coming together around the table of grace. Some come with obvious brokenness, others with hidden pride. But we all come as people in need of a Savior.
Jesus looks at each of us and says the same thing He said to that woman: “Come and eat with me and have peace.” Your seat is reserved. Your place is secure. Not because you’ve earned it, but because He’s chosen to love you. That’s the scandal of grace—it’s available to anyone who will receive it with faith.
Bible Verse
“Then Jesus said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven… Your faith has saved you; go in peace.’ “- Luke 7:48, 50
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus has reserved a place at His table specifically for you—regardless of your past or present struggles—change the way you see yourself and approach Him in worship?
Quote
No matter what your past is, no matter what you’re struggling with, no matter what you’re dealing with, you have a place at this church. And secondly, you have a place at the table with Christ if you trust him.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You have a place at Your table for me, just as I am. Help me to come to You with the same faith and humility as the woman in this story, knowing that Your grace is sufficient for all my failures and fears. May I never take for granted the peace and forgiveness You offer, and may my life be a reflection of the love You’ve shown me. Amen.
