Two Paths, One Choice | Monday
Devotional
Jesus often spoke in clear categories that challenge us to examine our hearts. In Luke 7, He divides humanity into two distinct groups: children of wisdom or children of foolishness. There is no middle ground in following Christ – we’re either on the narrow path or the broad one.
This binary choice confronts us daily. When we wake up, we decide whether to seek God’s wisdom or rely on our own understanding. When challenges arise, we choose whether to respond according to God’s Word or react based on our feelings. When temptation knocks, we decide whether to open the door or stand firm in faith.
The enemy wants us to believe that we can have it both ways – follow Jesus while keeping one foot in the world. But Jesus makes it clear: we cannot serve two masters. The path of wisdom leads to life, while the path of foolishness leads to destruction.
Today, consider which path you’re on. Are your decisions guided by God’s wisdom or your preferences? Are you seeking to conform Jesus to your image, or are you being transformed into His? The beautiful truth is that if you’re a follower of Jesus, you already have everything you need to live according to God’s wisdom.
Bible Verse
“To what then should I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we wailed, and you did not weep.’ ” – Luke 7:31-32
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life might you be trying to redefine Jesus or His teachings to better fit your preferences rather than submitting to His authority?
Quote
Jesus has, since the beginning, been giving clear categories. You are either this or that. You’re a goat or a sheep, right? You’re either on the broad path or the narrow path. Over and over and over again, Jesus is making it clear that there is no middle ground in following Christ.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve tried to make You fit into my plans rather than surrendering to Yours. Help me to choose the path of wisdom today and every day. Give me the courage to follow You fully, even when it’s difficult. Amen.
