The Sacred Space of the Table | Monday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
Picture your favorite meal shared with people you love. Maybe it’s Sunday dinner with family, coffee with a close friend, or a celebration feast. There’s something magical that happens when we gather around a table, isn’t there? Time seems to slow down, conversations deepen, and relationships are strengthened.

Tables have always been more than just furniture—they’re sacred spaces where life happens. They’re where we celebrate victories, process losses, share dreams, and build memories. In biblical times, sharing a meal was an act of acceptance and fellowship. When you invited someone to your table, you were saying they belonged.

Jesus understood this power of the table. Throughout His ministry, He used meals as opportunities for transformation. He ate with tax collectors, sinners, disciples, and yes, even religious leaders who questioned His every move. Each table became a classroom, each meal a chance for hearts to be changed.

Today, consider the tables in your own life. Your kitchen table, the conference room at work, the coffee shop where you meet friends—these are all potential sacred spaces. God wants to meet you there, to slow down your hurried pace and create moments of connection. Whether you’re sharing a meal or simply pausing for a quiet moment, remember that every table can become holy ground when we invite Jesus to join us.

The question isn’t whether you have the perfect table or the fanciest meal. The question is whether you’re willing to create space for meaningful connection—with God and with others.

Bible Verse
“One of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.” – Luke 7:36

Reflection Question
What tables in your life could become more sacred spaces for fellowship and spiritual growth if you intentionally invited God’s presence there?

Quote
There’s something significant about a table. I mean, it’s more than just wood and chairs or plastic, if you got it from Ikea or whatever it is. Right? But there’s something more than just whatever the material is, I mean, because it is the table that is this point in life where everything has the ability to just slow down and pause.

Prayer
Lord, help me to see the tables in my life as sacred spaces where You want to meet with me. Slow down my hurried heart and teach me to value the moments of connection You provide. May every meal, every conversation, every pause become an opportunity to experience Your presence and share Your love with others. Amen.
