When Doubt Knocks at Your Door | Monday
Devotional
Doubt is a visitor that knocks on everyone’s door at some point in their faith journey. Even John the Baptist—the man who baptized Jesus and proclaimed Him as the Lamb of God—experienced doubt. When circumstances didn’t align with his expectations, questions arose in his heart.
In Luke 7, we find John imprisoned, his ministry seemingly cut short. From his cell, he sends messengers to ask Jesus, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” This wasn’t a crisis of faith but a moment of honest questioning when reality didn’t match expectations.
What’s remarkable isn’t John’s doubt but what he did with it. He didn’t hide it, ignore it, or let it fester. He took it directly to Jesus. And Jesus didn’t respond with disappointment or rebuke. Instead, He pointed to the evidence of His ministry—the blind receiving sight, the lame walking, the good news being preached.
Perhaps you’re experiencing doubt today. Maybe life hasn’t turned out as you expected, or God seems distant in your struggles. Remember this truth: “Doubt in your life does not mean that you are not saved. Doubt does not mean that you are not in the center of God’s will. Doubt in your life is either an opportunity for the enemy or an opportunity for the spirit of God in your life.”
Like John, bring your questions directly to Jesus. Let your doubt become a doorway to deeper faith rather than a barrier between you and God.
Bible Verse
“When the men had come to him, they said, ‘John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?”‘” – Luke 7:20
Reflection Question
What specific doubts or questions have you been hesitant to bring directly to God, and what might be holding you back from this honest conversation with Him?
Quote
The doubts that you deal with are completely natural. The doubts that you have in your mind right now is okay. Do you realize that the Lord is not disappointed in your doubting?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I confess that I sometimes struggle with doubt. Thank you that you’re not disappointed in my questions but meet me in them. Help me bring my uncertainties directly to you rather than letting them separate me from you. Use my doubts as opportunities to deepen my faith. In your name I pray, Amen.
