The Nature of True Faith | Monday
Devotional
What is faith? Many people think of it as a blind leap in the dark or wishful thinking. But biblical faith is something far more substantial. It’s treating future promises as present realities and having deep conviction about things we cannot see with our physical eyes.
Faith isn’t something we can manufacture on our own. We can’t simply decide one day to have more faith through our own willpower or determination. True faith is a gift that comes from God through His Spirit and through the Gospel message.
When we understand this, it changes how we approach our relationship with God. Instead of striving to work up enough faith, we can humbly ask God to increase our faith. Instead of feeling guilty when our faith wavers, we can turn to the source of faith Himself.
Today, consider the areas where you’re struggling to trust God. Remember that faith isn’t about your ability to believe hard enough—it’s about the One in whom you place your trust. As you face uncertainties and challenges, ask God to give you the gift of seeing His promises as present realities.
Bible Verse
“Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1
Reflection Question
In what area of your life do you need to stop trying to manufacture faith on your own strength and instead ask God to give you His perspective on your situation?
Quote
Faith is not blind, it’s not wishful thinking. It is the reality that future blessings is today. It is the proof that it is the evidence that we know, even though we don’t have to see the evidence with our own eyes. That’s what faith is.
Prayer
Father, thank You that faith is not something I have to generate on my own. I confess my tendency to rely on my own strength rather than trusting You completely. Please increase my faith today and help me to see my circumstances through Your eyes. Give me the gift of treating Your promises as present realities in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
