The Foundation That Matters | Monday
Devotional
Life is full of choices, but perhaps none is more important than the foundation we choose to build our lives upon. Jesus makes this abundantly clear in His teaching. We’re either building on rock or sand—there’s no middle ground.
Think about construction for a moment. Before a single wall goes up, careful attention is given to the foundation. Why? Because everything else depends on it. The most beautiful mansion built on shifting sand will eventually collapse.
In our spiritual lives, we face the same reality. We might decorate our lives with religious activities and Christian language, but what matters is what lies beneath. Are we truly anchored in Christ? Or have we merely created an impressive facade with nothing substantial underneath?
The truth is sobering: “Our lives will either stand secure or collapse in ruin based on whether or not we have a firm foundation.” This isn’t about perfection—it’s about direction. It’s about who or what we’re ultimately trusting in when the storms of life hit.
Today, take a moment to honestly assess your foundation. Are you building your life, your decisions, your identity on the unchanging truth of Christ? Or have you been constructing on the shifting sands of cultural approval, personal comfort, or self-reliance?
Bible Verse
“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them. He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built.” – Luke 6:47-48
Reflection Question
What areas of your life might you be building on sand rather than the solid foundation of Christ and His teachings?
Quote
Our lives will either stand secure or collapse in ruin based on whether or not we have a firm foundation.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to honestly examine the foundation of my life. Show me where I’ve been building on shifting sand instead of on You. Give me the courage to tear down what needs to be rebuilt and the wisdom to anchor everything in Your unchanging truth. Thank You for being the rock that never fails. Amen.
