The Crossroads of Doubt | Wednesday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
Every doubt we experience represents a critical crossroads in our spiritual journey. One path leads to despair, where questions become barriers that separate us from God. The other path leads to deeper faith, where honest wrestling with uncertainty actually strengthens our relationship with Christ.

When John the Baptist sent his disciples to question Jesus, he stood at precisely such a crossroads. His doubt could have led to disillusionment and abandonment of his calling. Instead, by bringing his questions directly to Jesus, his doubt became an opportunity for reassurance and renewed faith.

Jesus’ response to John teaches us something profound about how God views our moments of uncertainty. Rather than condemning John, Jesus pointed to the evidence of His ministry and even went on to praise John’s character and calling. This reveals God’s patience and compassion toward us in our doubting moments.

Perhaps you’re standing at this crossroads today. Your doubts feel overwhelming, and you’re uncertain which direction to take. Remember this truth: “Doubt is always a crossroads in your life for us to go deeper or be driven to despair.”

The direction you choose doesn’t depend on eliminating all questions but on what you do with them. Will you allow doubt to isolate you from God and community? Or will you use it as an opportunity to seek God more earnestly, study His Word more deeply, and connect with fellow believers more authentically?

Choose the path that leads to deeper faith, even if that path still includes unanswered questions.

Bible Verse
“And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” – Luke 7:23

Reflection Question
Looking back at times of doubt in your life, can you identify moments when uncertainty actually led to deeper faith rather than driving you away from God? What made the difference?

Quote
Doubt is always a crossroads in your life for us to go deeper or be driven to despair.

Prayer
Lord, I stand at the crossroads of doubt today. Guide my steps toward deeper faith rather than despair. Help me to bring my questions to You with honesty and to trust that You’re big enough to handle my uncertainty. Thank You that You don’t reject me in my doubting moments but invite me to come closer. Use my questions to deepen my relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
