Obedience: The Evidence of Faith | Thursday
Devotional
Words come easily. We can talk about our faith, share religious insights, and use all the right Christian vocabulary. But Jesus cuts through our religious talk with a penetrating question: “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say?”
This question challenges us to examine the gap between what we profess and how we actually live. True faith isn’t measured by what we say but by how we respond to God’s Word. It’s not about perfect performance but about the direction of our hearts and lives.
“The greatest evidence of salvation in your life is obedience. That’s it. You want to know whether or not you’re saved. How hungry are you to obey the word of God?”
Obedience isn’t about earning God’s love or working our way to heaven. Rather, it’s the natural response of a heart that has been transformed by grace. When we truly understand who Jesus is and what He’s done for us, obedience becomes our grateful response to His love.
Every act of obedience is like digging deeper into the foundation of Christ, strengthening our relationship with Him and building a life that can withstand life’s storms. It’s not about legalism but about love—loving God enough to trust that His ways are best, even when they’re difficult.
Bible Verse
“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them.” – Luke 6:47
Reflection Question
What command or teaching of Jesus have you been hesitant to obey, and what might be holding you back from full obedience?
Quote
Every act of obedience, you are digging deeper and deeper and deeper into the foundation of Christ himself.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I’ve called You ‘Lord’ with my lips while resisting Your lordship in my actions. Thank You for Your patience with me. Create in me a hunger to obey Your Word, not out of duty but out of love and gratitude. Help me to trust that Your commands are always for my good and Your glory. I want my life to be built on the solid foundation of not just hearing but doing what You say. In Your name I pray, amen.
