Recognizing Our Need | Monday
Dr. Michael Gossett

Devotional
It’s easy to think we have it all together. We make plans, set goals, and work hard to achieve them. But when we stand before a holy God, the truth becomes clear: we are spiritually bankrupt without Him. This realization isn’t meant to discourage us but to free us from the exhausting effort of trying to be good enough on our own. In Isaiah 6, the prophet encounters God’s holiness and immediately recognizes his own unworthiness. “Woe to me!” he cries out. This honest acknowledgment of his spiritual poverty doesn’t drive him away from God—it becomes the very foundation of his relationship with Him. True blessing begins when we stop pretending we can manage life on our own. It starts when we recognize our complete dependence on God, not just for salvation but for every breath, every decision, every relationship, and every task. This dependence isn’t weakness; it’s wisdom. It’s understanding our proper place in relationship to our Creator.

Bible Verse
“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” – Isaiah 6:5

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life have you been trying to succeed through self-reliance rather than dependence on God?

Quote
You cannot be saved without Christ. You cannot live without Christ. You cannot work without Christ. You cannot run a business without Christ. You cannot lead your marriage without Christ. You cannot lead your family without Christ. Why? Because you are completely incapable of doing anything good in your flesh.

Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I’ve tried to live independently of You. Help me recognize my complete need for You in every area of my life. Thank You that in my weakness, Your strength is made perfect. Amen.
