“The Supper to Remember”
Luke 22:7-23

Preparations for the Passover Meal

Jesus had plans in place for an important moment in history. He had prearranged a person and a place to accomplish a Divine Purpose – The Passover Meal. He sent Peter and John into the city to look for a man carrying a jar of water and instructed them to follow him to a house to use their upper room. There they prepared the Passover meal also known as “The Last Supper”.

No doubt you have seen various paintings of “The Last Supper” with Jesus and the disciples. The Passover meal is symbolic, and Jesus used the elements of this meal to give them spiritual meaning. He took the cup, gave thanks, gave it to the disciples saying, “this is my blood poured out for you.”

He took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them saying “this is my body which is given for you.” Basically saying, by my life and by my death I have made possible a relationship between you and God.

Jesus said (vs. 19b) “Do this in remembrance of me.” He knows the human mind forgets. He asked us to come into the peace and stillness of his house and take the cup and the bread with his people and remember the events that purchased our salvation. Let us take extra time this week to reflect on his sacrifice. He gave his life for you, so that you could have eternal life.  Let us live our lives on purpose in an effort to share His story with those we encounter.

The Lord knew his suffering and crucifixion was about to take place and to make it all the more tragic he was betrayed by Judas who participated in this ceremony. But it was all a part of his plan, this important moment in history. Keep reading to discover how this tragedy was turned into the greatest moment in history and what it means for you.
