The Adult Transformation Ministry is located on the second floor of the Lighthouse in the Administrative Suite.
Adult Transformation Ministry (ATM), can be explained in this way. Jesus called His followers to a more abundant life; a life beyond the grind. However to receive this full life, God must TRANSFORM our natures into new creations. This transformation comes from our belief in Christ’s death and our submission to follow his teachings. Romans 12:2 says that we will be transformed by the renewing of our minds, which sums up the purpose of Sunday Morning Bible Study (SMBS).
You may see the initials SMBS mentioned throughout the church and in printed materials. What does that mean? It simply stands for Sunday Morning Bible Study (SMBS) It’s the small church within the larger congregation of Green Acres. adults that feel connected to Green Acres are active in a SMBS group. There are over 60 open groups to choose from. Use the interactive tool, SMBS Finder, to narrow down your choices and find a place to start. All SMBS groups use the same curriculum and it is designed for new people to jump in on any Sunday. No cost or previous Bible knowledge required.

Adult Transformation Assistant
When the Ministry Assistant position in the Adult Transformation Ministry became available in July of 2013, Holly was excited about the possibilities that come with a new opportunity. After having been a travel agent for 25 years, it has been quite a change for her but one that she loves. Green Acres has played a major role in Holly’s life and she has just about determined that her blood may even be green. She’s been around GABC since 1976 and has fond memories of running these halls as a kid after Training Union and G.A.s. Holly has such a love for this congregation and its staff. She considers it an honor (and just plain fun) to work alongside a great team in the Adult Transformation Ministry, including the volunteer leaders that make Sunday Morning Bible Study such a vital ministry to this church. This ministry stays on its toes since we meet all 52 weeks of the year.
Holly has a son, Luc, currently in high school. A few interesting facts that most people don’t know about her is that she is a certified scuba diver and loves “Wheel of Fortune.” Two of her greatest accomplishments are running a 10K in 2013 in the Azalea Run and walking a 1/2 marathon in 2012 in the Tyler Rose Run.
New Member Coordinator
Candy was born in Houston and raised in Venezuela, South America and Andrews, Texas. After graduating from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, she moved to Dallas, working there six years. Since moving to the Tyler area, she has worked for various ministries, including World Challenge and Dallas Holm Ministries.
In 2003 Candy joined the staff of GABC as New Member Coordinator. This position has brought many wonderful people across her path, most notably her husband, Mel. They married in 2010 and still love to share how God brought them together. Times of relaxation for her include searching out garage and estate sales and reading.
With a background of a two-room country school, high school newspaper editor, business school graduate, early retirement from IBM Corp after 14 years due to downsizing. Arlene was blessed to serve almost 20 years in the Pastor’s office at GABC and continues to serve on a part-time basis as the Outreach Coordinator for the Adult Transformation Ministry. For enjoyment, Arlene enjoys playing on softball, volleyball and tennis teams but reading remains her favorite pastime.
Arlene’s happiest accomplishment is her marriage to wonderful Bill which lasted 52 years, until his relocation to heaven. Her pride and joy are her three “perfect” children&8212;Laura, a Nurse Practitioner in Michigan, Marcia, a computer guru and pool shark and Cliff, a ranch manager. God is good, and Arlene is thankful!
Katy and her husband, Matt, moved to Tyler in May 2015 from the Dallas area (Sachse) for a new job at Christus/Trinity Mother Frances. They have been married for eight years and have two precious little boys she has the joy of staying home with every day. Matt & Katy started attending GABC almost immediately after moving here and officially joined in January of 2016. They are involved in a young married SMBS and have met so many wonderful people through this wonderful church body. When the opportunity to be the 1st Impressions Volunteer Coordinator became available, Katy knew it would be the perfect way for her to use her gifts and talents for the Lord. She loves people and loves helping people get plugged in, feel welcomed and accepted in our large church. It is her prayer that the 1st Impressions Ministry will continue to flourish and help make our large church feel small.
Joining the Church
At the end of each worship service, we give an opportunity for people to respond called the “invitation.” During this time, worship participants who desire to join Green Acres may come to the front of the worship center where they will be greeted by a minister of the church. You will then be escorted to a private reception area where you will have an opportunity to learn more about the process of membership, fill out appropriate paper work, and have your picture taken. Alternately, you may come to the Bethany Suite after the conclusion of the morning worship services and speak with a decision counselor there. During the week, contact the church office at 903-525-1100, and we can schedule an appointment with one of our staff at your convenience.
To be a member of Green Acres Baptist Church you must first be a Christian who has been scripturally baptized. You may join by a “statement” of your faith or by moving your membership “letter” from another Baptist church. If you have not yet followed Jesus’ example in scriptural baptism, you can discuss it with one of the decision counselors or schedule a meeting with one of our ministers. If baptism in a worship service seems daunting to you, please contact us so we can offer other options.
If you have questions before joining, you can learn more about Green Acres in several ways. On Sunday mornings, come by the Information Desk in the grand foyer, or come to the Bethany Suite after a worship service. We also host a quarterly Pastor’s Discovery Dinner especially for all new members and interested guests. Contact Candy Renfro, New Member Coordinator, for more information, 903-525-1153.
First Impressions began after recognizing the need to make this really big church feel smaller and more accessible for first time guests. The ministry strives to do this by warmly greeting guest and members in the parking lots, at all major entrances to the buildings, and providing information and directions at the various information desks located around the campus.
If you are new to Green Acres we would love to hear from you about your experience as a first time guest. Were the signs in parking lots and inside the buildings helpful? Were there greeters present at the entrance you used? Did you feel like a stranger or a welcomed family member? We want to hear both positive and negative feedback, so please don’t hesitate to send your comments to Katy Link.
